Dominga S\u00e1nchez hacia la ingenier\u00eda estructural no fue el convencional. Como estudiante universitaria de primera generaci\u00f3n, orgullosa de sus ra\u00edces zapotecas y madre de dos hijos, compagin\u00f3 la vida familiar con las intensas exigencias de un programa universitario de ingenier\u00eda en la Universidad de California en San Diego. Desde el principio, comprendi\u00f3 que la ingenier\u00eda no consist\u00eda s\u00f3lo en ecuaciones y habilidades t\u00e9cnicas, sino tambi\u00e9n en perseverancia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tras licenciarse en Ingenier\u00eda Estructural, Dominga curs\u00f3 estudios de posgrado en la Universidad Estatal de Oregon, donde obtuvo un m\u00e1ster y un doctorado en Ingenier\u00eda Civil. Como parte de su investigaci\u00f3n, examin\u00f3 la comprensi\u00f3n conceptual de la resistencia de los materiales entre los ingenieros civiles profesionales y los estudiantes de ingenier\u00eda, y explor\u00f3 c\u00f3mo las experiencias de los estudiantes latinos de ingenier\u00eda civil en las organizaciones profesionales dieron forma a sus identidades e influyeron en su \u00e9xito acad\u00e9mico. A trav\u00e9s de su trabajo, descubri\u00f3 los retos a los que se enfrentan los estudiantes infrarrepresentados en los espacios de ingenier\u00eda y proporciona estrategias para animar a los educadores de ingenier\u00eda a hacer de la ingenier\u00eda un entorno m\u00e1s equitativo e inclusivo para todos los estudiantes de ingenier\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adem\u00e1s de la investigaci\u00f3n, la Sra. Dominga ha estado muy implicada en la educaci\u00f3n y la divulgaci\u00f3n de la ingenier\u00eda, desarrollando oportunidades de aprendizaje STEM biling\u00fces para comunidades K-12 desfavorecidas. Dominga, la ingenier\u00eda siempre ha sido algo m\u00e1s que una disciplina: es una prueba de resistencia. Con un doctorado reci\u00e9n obtenido en 2023, reflexiona sobre la realidad de este campo: &#8220;La ingenier\u00eda no es para los d\u00e9biles de coraz\u00f3n&#8221;. Es competitiva, rigurosa y a menudo carece de diversidad. Pero para quienes est\u00e1n dispuestos a superarlo, la recompensa es inmensa, no s\u00f3lo por los logros personales, sino por la capacidad de configurar el futuro de la ense\u00f1anza y la pr\u00e1ctica de la ingenier\u00eda.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Recursos comunitarios para ingenieros de color y mujeres ingenieras<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dominga recomienda a los j\u00f3venes ingenieros que trabajen para construir una comunidad acad\u00e9mica y educativa que les proporcione acceso a apoyo y recursos. Algunos lugares excelentes para comenzar la b\u00fasqueda de comunidad para j\u00f3venes ingenieras, no binarias y\/o BIPOC siglas que incluye a personas afrodescendientes, ind\u00edgenas y personas de color, en el Valle Mid-Willamette incluyen:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SHPE &#8211; <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/clubs.oregonstate.edu\/feature-story\/about-us#:~:text=SHPE%20changes%20lives%20by%20empowering%20the%20Hispanic%20community,world%20through%20STEM%20awareness%2C%20access%2C%20support%20and%20development.\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>El departamento de SHPE de la Universidad Estatal de Oregon<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trabaja para empoderar a la comunidad hispana para alcanzar su m\u00e1ximo potencial y crear un impacto duradero a trav\u00e9s de carreras y educaci\u00f3n STEM. Con una red global de m\u00e1s de 40.000 miembros, SWE proporciona desarrollo profesional, tutor\u00eda y defensa para apoyar a las mujeres en STEM.
