{"id":553,"date":"2026-10-21T21:09:04","date_gmt":"2026-10-21T21:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.midvalleystem.org\/millcoop\/?page_id=553"},"modified":"2026-10-21T22:02:45","modified_gmt":"2026-10-21T22:02:45","slug":"user-guidelines","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.midvalleystem.org\/millcoop\/user-guidelines\/","title":{"rendered":"MILL User Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><b>Safety &amp; Conduct Expectations<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4><strong>All participants must:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\">Adhere to MILL User Guidelines<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Complete <a href=\"https:\/\/www.midvalleystem.org\/millcoop\/safety\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>safety orientation(s)<\/strong><\/a> prior to tool use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wear appropriate PPE and follow signage and shop rules<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clean up, reset tools, and store materials after use<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respect shared spaces, equipment, and fellow members<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maintain professional and inclusive behavior in alignment with LBCC policies and standards of conduct Materials &amp; PPE<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Materials and Supplies:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Participants are responsible for providing their own consumable materials unless otherwise specified. <\/b>The Hub may provide limited shared supplies. Use of specialized equipment may require approved materials.<\/p>\n<h3><b>Personal Protective Equipment (PPE):<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><b>Participants are responsible for using appropriate PPE as required. The Hub provides basic PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and access to an eye wash station. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants are expected to use PPE appropriately in accordance with training, posted requirements, and applicable safety standards.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Open Source &amp; Project Use Expectations<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All materials, designs, and curriculum created using MILL tools must be <\/span><b>shared as open-source resources<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Files should be uploaded to the shared resource folder. Projects must be for <\/span><b>educational use only<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014in your own classroom, school setting, or for peer sharing. For example: a teacher may use the laser cutter to create fraction manipulatives for their 5th grade class and upload the design file to the shared folder for others to replicate.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Communication &amp; Support<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The MILL operates as a member-led cooperative.<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The cooperative utilizes standard digital communication tools, including a private Discord server, to coordinate scheduling, share updates, and support collaboration among participants. Discord functions similarly to other group communication platforms (e.g., Slack or Microsoft Teams), providing organized channels for messages and resource sharing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The \u201cserver\u201d refers to a private, invitation-only workspace within the Discord platform (not a physical or LBCC-hosted server). Discord is a widely used, no-cost platform selected as a widely used, no-cost platform that supports structured, moderated communication and easy onboarding<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These tools are administered by the Hub and are used for program coordination purposes only. Participants are expected to use all communication platforms in accordance with LBCC policies, professional standards, and appropriate use guidelines. No sensitive or protected information should be shared via these platforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The private <\/span><b>Discord server<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (orientation required to join)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calendar for booking and availability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shared folders for curriculum and tool guides<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The MILL maintains a private Discord server to:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coordinate contribution hours and events<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Share updates on space\/equipment availability<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Exchange tips, lesson ideas, and curricular resources<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask technical or instructional questions to peers or staff<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All participants are expected to join and monitor the Discord space regularly. Instructions for joining will be provided at orientation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>How to Join Discord (for Beginners)<\/b><\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to https:\/\/discord.com\/<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Create an account using your preferred email<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Download the app or use the browser version<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Join the <a href=\"https:\/\/discord.com\/invite\/T2hhXxvFm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>MILL Cooperative Server<\/strong><\/a> using the invite link provided after orientation<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Update your username to include your first name and school<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Navigate to the #introductions channel to say hello and check pinned posts for scheduling and updates<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3><b>Guest Guidelines<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Guests are defined as visitors to The MILL that are not a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScGYJ8FUkaiXVyV0xNTBc8dZeYxV722GMa6iNMiv51dElOrRw\/viewform\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Co-Op member<\/strong><\/a>. Guests may only be present during approved activities or events and may not use tools or equipment unless pre-approved and supervised in accordance with this agreement. Educators are welcome to invite colleagues to scheduled public open houses or community nights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hub may photograph or document use of the space while in use for promotional, grant reporting, and educational purposes in accordance with LBCC policies and applicable consent requirements.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Liability and Conduct<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants acknowledge that The MILL includes equipment and activities that carry inherent risk. Participation is voluntary and contingent upon completion of required safety training.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participants are expected to follow all LBCC policies, safety procedures, and posted guidelines.
