Join a MESA Invention Club Today
The Mid-Valley STEM-CTE Hub has partnered with Oregon MESA to bring their award-winning afterschool invention club program to our region!
About MESA:
Oregon MESA (Mathematics, Engineering, Science, Achievement) is an equity program of Portland State University, using invention and engineering to prepare underrepresented middle and high students for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. MESA is typically offered at specific schools.
When:
MESA Invention Clubs meet from November-May for 1 – 1.5 hours virtually every week! We also host special events like Family Nights, College and Career Visits, and competitions for you to share your ideas and learn about science, technology, engineering, and math fields!
In a MESA Invention Club, you will learn:
- Connect with friends
- Develop skills to design, prototype, build, and present inventions
- Solve a problem for a client in your community
- Create an invention to help someone you care about
- Work in a team
- Talk with STEM professionals about what their job is like
- Pitch your ideas!
What if I don’t know anything about invention or engineering?:
That’s perfect and there’s no experience necessary. All middle and high school students are encouraged to apply, regardless of background. Students must qualify for free or reduced lunch to be eligible to participate.
