What is your favorite animated movie or video? Mobile Makerspace Coordinator, Kelsie’s, is Marcel The Shell With Shoes On

In March, the Mobile Makerspace made four stops throughout Linn and Benton communities to explore the technical side of films and how animation is created. Together we turned on our tech lenses to learn about stop-motion video. First, we created a short story with a flip book to dive deeper into the meaning and purpose of frames per second when talking about moving illustrations. Next, we used our creative thinking skills to determine how we were all going to collaborate in creating a storyline. We finished out the Mobile Makerspace sessions by working as a team to use our newfound knowledge of animation to create a short stop-motion film about fish and other creatures in the ocean.

It was very humbling to see the participants working so well together to create these videos. They were giving each other the room to move their fish in between each picture and were taking turns hitting the camera’s shutter button.

Check out these awesome stop-motion videos the participants at our Mobile Makerspace events made!

Huge thank you to Oregon ASK, for providing professional development and curriculum to educators. Catch us next month for an engineering project called, Solar Bugs. These bugs can really move and groove when they’re capturing solar energy!
