The Mobile Makerspace and Program Coordinator, Kelsie Szeszulski, have been nurturing a blossoming partnership with Ophelia’s Place Albany location. After several months of successful Mobile Makerspace events at the empowering after-school space for adolescent girls, Kelsie was invited to join OP and the girls for a week-long science camp.

The curious bunch of young scientists tried several chemistry experiments such as elephant toothpaste, making sidewalk chalk sticks, and growing crystals. and exploding sidewalk chalk. The OP girls also tried their hand at making rings with 3-D pens and spent some downtime playing STEAM games.

The girls who attended the camp were gifted a Foldscope to encourage them to continue with their science exploration at home and with others.

As the camp was wrapping up, the girls shared with Kelsie that they most enjoyed being around each other and making new friends while trying these experiments for the first time.

We’d love to have your family join us for a Mobile Makerspace event. Check the list below for an event near you.
