The Mobile Makerspace brings exciting hands-on STEAM learning opportunities to local libraries and out-of-school organizations. These events are free to attend and open to all students in Linn and Benton counties. 

We hope to see your students at an event in your community! 

October:

Solar Eclipse fun in October. We’ll learn about the annular solar eclipse that will pass across Oregon on October 14, 2023. Find out how a solar eclipse occurs! Each participant will create their own sun, earth, and moon orbital model. Following that, we will create an artwork depicting a total solar eclipse. Each participant will get a set of eclipse glasses to use during the eclipse. (Events that occur before October 14th)

October 14, 2023: Annual Solar Eclipse STEAM Viewing Event. From 8 – 9:30 a.m. at Harrisburg Public Library.

Investigating Magnetic Fields. The theme of the event is magnets and magnetic fields. There will be many stations where you may observe magnets in various shapes, how they resist one another, and learn some additional interesting facts. We’ll finish the event with some creative time to make a magnetic pipe cleaner critter.

November:

Circuitry! The Mobile Makerspace will be bringing supplies to engineer paper circuit cubes to demonstrate the basics of circuity.  Learn about open and closed circuits, polarity, power, and components. Each participant will be able to take home their paper circuit cubes.

December:

The Earth as a Mosaic. We will be studying and practicing several mosaic art techniques. This will enhance students’ understanding of symmetry, patterns, mathematical forms, and learn about the history and indigenous tradition of mosaic art. Each participant will be able to take their mosaic artwork home with them.
