Mobile Makerspace – Monroe Art in the Park

July 15 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am

***MUST SIGN UP THROUGH MONROE ART IN THE PARK***

Participants of the Mobile Makerspace’s Art in the Park Event in Monroe will have the opportunity to make binary birthday bracelets and construct hoop gliders.

Binary Birthday Bracelets: Through this activity, participants engage in hands-on learning that combines mathematical concepts, technological applications, creative expression, and problem-solving skills. It offers an opportunity to explore the intersection of art and technology while gaining a deeper understanding of fundamental concepts in computer science and mathematics. Additionally, the tangible result—a personalized binary birthday bracelet—serves as a meaningful and memorable artifact of the learning experience.

Hoop gliders: Throwing a basic straw does not travel very far. However, when you add paper hoops, the straw glides through the air. That’s because the hoops behave as wings. Wings are seen on all flying creatures like insects and birds, they’re also on airplanes! But not all wings are the same form or size. Different wings might be more suitable for different types of flight. During this makerspace project, we will turn into engineers and try adjusting the wings of our glider. How does it fly with several wings? Additionally, the simplicity and accessibility of this activity make it suitable for learners of various ages and skill levels.
