Healing Jellyfish with Elizabeth Lee
October 20, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 amFree
I’m from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago and have been at the University of Chicago since 2007 when I started college there. I majored in Biological Chemistry, Biology with a specialization in Neuroscience. I studied mechanisms of voltage sensing in voltage-sensitive proteins for my doctoral work. I wanted to understand how “electrical switches” in cells open and closed gates in these cells. However, as a postdoc, my interests have shifted and I have switched fields. I now study how jellyfish heal wounds. The jellyfish system, Clytia hemisphaerica, is excellent for studying wound healing because they heal quick enough that you can watch it happen in real-time. When I’m not in the lab I spend time baking, reading, and playing video games. I really like taking walks and seeing what bugs I can find along the way.
