Unruly Splats: Educator Presentation

May 13, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

On Thursday, May 13th from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Unruly Splats will be presenting on “3 Easy Ways to Mix Coding and Play.”

Block-based coding is a great way to introduce K-8 students to computer programming, but what are some playful and engaging activities to get started? In this hands-on workshop, Lauren from the Unruly Splats team will share 3 easy activities that combine coding and play and share a few stories of how other educators are incorporating coding and play across their curriculum. There will be games, there will be code, there will be fun!

In this session, you will learn:

1) How to use our Quiz Show! slide deck to play a competitive, coding-themed trivia game—we’re playing live!

2) How to combine math and coding with our Lucky Splats game – we’ll play that live too.

3) Tips from fellow educators on how to incorporate movement into coding activities.

Our vision is to build ridiculously fun learning tools and experiences for the young people who will create the future. Unruly tools combine active physical play with tough-to-learn concepts in technology. We engage all kinds of kids in learning experiences to build resiliency to thrive in tomorrow’s world. In these pursuits, we make high-quality products, resources, and support systems that are learner-focused and lead to loyal long-term relationships with the community.

The Unruly team is made up of experts in cognitive science, toy manufacturing, education, and technology with experience on teams at Scratch, the MIT Media Lab, Hasbro, Mattel, Nickelodeon, iRobot, and Disney. Investors include Techstars, LearnLaunch, AT&T, and Amazon.
