Dust collection systems help maintain a cleaner, safer makerspace by capturing sawdust and debris generated during woodworking. The MILL uses several dust collection systems, including the Rockler Dust Right, Festool CLEANTEC CT 15, and Festool CLEANTEC CT SYS, to reduce airborne dust and collect debris directly from compatible equipment.

These systems use suction and filtration to collect dust through hoses connected to power tools or cleaning attachments. The Rockler Dust Right system supports dust collection from woodworking equipment, while the Festool CLEANTEC extractors provide portable dust collection for smaller tools and work areas. Using dust collection at the source helps improve visibility, reduce cleanup, and limit exposure to fine particles.

Compatible Equipment & Materials

Dust collection systems can be connected to compatible sanders, saws, routers, jointers, and other woodworking equipment using appropriately sized hoses and adapters. They are primarily used to collect wood dust, sawdust, and wood chips. The Festool extractors can also support general workshop cleanup when equipped with suitable attachments and filters.

Compatibility depends on the equipment's dust port, hose diameter, airflow requirements, and the collection system's capabilities. Not every dust collector is suitable for every machine or material.

Before You Begin

Always connect and activate the appropriate dust collection system before operating equipment that generates dust. Check that hoses are securely attached, collection containers have adequate capacity, and filters or dust bags are properly installed. Keep hoses and power cords away from moving machinery and walkways.

Never collect hot ashes, sparks, flammable liquids, or combustible metal dust with these systems. Do not use them for hazardous materials. Turn off and unplug the system before performing maintenance or emptying collected debris.

Dust collection reduces exposure but does not eliminate airborne particles. Wear appropriate respiratory protection when required, and follow all equipment-specific safety procedures.
