The Sizzix Big Shot is a manual die-cutting and embossing machine used to create precise shapes, patterns, and textures for paper crafts and fabric projects. The machine works with a variety of Sizzix dies and embossing folders.
To make a cut, the material and cutting die are layered between cutting pads and the appropriate platform to create a “sandwich.” Turning the handle moves the sandwich through the machine's rollers, applying pressure that pushes the die through the material. Embossing folders use a similar process to press raised or recessed textures into a material.
Compatible Materials
Depending on the type of die being used, the Big Shot can work with paper, cardstock, felt, fabric, foam, vinyl, thin leather, craft aluminum, and other craft materials. Always check that both the material and die are compatible with the Big Shot before cutting.
Before You Begin
Keep fingers away from the rollers and moving components while operating the machine. Always use the correct platform and cutting-pad combination for the die or embossing folder being used. Never force a sandwich through the rollers if it feels unusually tight.
New to die cutting? Start with cardstock and a simple die to become familiar with building the correct sandwich and operating the hand crank.
