The Bosch Jigsaw is a handheld power saw used to make straight, curved, and irregular cuts in wood and other materials. Its narrow, reciprocating blade moves rapidly up and down, making it useful for cutting custom shapes, creating openings, trimming materials, and completing detailed woodworking projects. Unlike a circular saw, a jigsaw can follow curved cutting lines and navigate relatively tight corners.

To make a cut, the appropriate blade is installed, and the material is securely clamped to a stable work surface. The saw's base plate rests flat against the material while the user guides the moving blade along the desired cutting line.

Compatible Materials

With the appropriate blade, Bosch jigsaws can cut solid wood, plywood, and MDF. Different materials require specific blade types, cutting speeds, and techniques.

Before You Begin

The jigsaw's rapidly moving blade can cause serious injury. Wear eye and hearing protection, keep hands away from the cutting path, and never place fingers beneath the workpiece. Secure loose clothing, jewelry, and long hair, and keep the power cord clear of the blade.

Always clamp material securely and ensure there is sufficient clearance beneath the cutting area. Keep the saw's base plate flat against the material and avoid forcing the blade through a cut. Disconnect the saw from its power source before changing blades or making adjustments and allow the blade to stop completely before setting the tool down.

New to using a jigsaw? Start with a securely clamped piece of plywood and practice straight cuts and gentle curves to become familiar with blade control, cutting speed, and safe tool positioning before attempting more intricate designs.
